An 11-year-old boy walking with his mother on upper Main Street on Saturday, June 9, at approximately 5:30 p.m. was accosted by two teenage boys, one of whom displayed what appeared to be a handgun. The duo demanded the victim’s bike and took it from him. City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to the scene and detained one suspect matching a description provided by the victim. He was positively identified as one of the robbery participants and he was taken into custody on charges of second degree robbery. The suspect was found to be in possession of a pellet gun magazine; no weapon was recovered. The suspect is 13 years old and his case will be handled in Dutchess County Family Court.

Burglary Arrest Made
A Hyde Park man was arrested by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department this morning on a felony charge of second degree burglary for his role in an incident on Innis Avenue in June.
James B. Sealey, 29, was arrested following an investigation into a daytime burglary on Innis Avenue that involved two men who illegally entered a single family home on the morning of June 16. Neighbors witnessed Sealey, and another man who has yet to be identified, removing property and placing it into a vehicle. When the pair realized they were being observed, they attempted to flee, and their vehicle got caught on a retaining wall, forcing them to leave the scene on foot.
Sealey was held pending arraignment.
Handgun Recovered Following Report of Shots Fired
On Tuesday, July 12, at approximately 4:25 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to the area of 73 Catharine St. for a report of shots fired and a male running. A search conducted by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office K-9 located a .40 caliber handgun in the rear of a house on Mansion Street. A man matching the description of the subject seen running was also located and was identified as Avery Rogers, 20, of the City of Poughkeepsie. He was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Good Samaritans Detain Robbery Suspect
On Thursday, July 14, at 3:45 p.m. City of Poughkeepsie Police received several calls reporting an armed robbery that just occurred at the City Center Deli, 472 Main St. The callers reported that several civilians were detaining the suspect.
Upon the arrival of Police, officers found the suspect on the groun being detained by three Good Samaritans. The suspect was identified as Joshua McGuire, a 30-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie resident. McGuire had entered the deli where he remained until there were no other customers inside. He then asked the clerk to help him find something. Once the clerk was accessible, the suspect pulled a knife, threatening the clerk and demanding money. When the suspect attempted to open the register, the clerk fled the store and asked people in the parking lot to call the police.
Several civilians did call the police, but when the suspect came out of the deli with a knife in one hand and cash in the other, the Good Samaritans, acting without regard for their safety, took the suspect to the ground and held him there until the arrival of police.
The clerk received several small lacerations during her struggle with the suspect, but refused medical treatment.
The civilians who assisted are: Bart Meyer and Peter Gordon, both of the City of Poughkeepsie, and Daimion Lowe of Gardner, NY.
Joseph McGuire was charged with first-degree robbery and was held pending arraignment.
Pair Arrested After Attempted Vehicle Break-in
At approximately 1:30 this morning, a resident of Loockerman Avenue called City of Poughkeepsie Police to report three subjects in his driveway attempting to enter his vehicle. The subjects fled on foot but the caller was able to follow two of them and point them out to responding officers. They were identified as Dajuan Cummings-Kimble, 21, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, and Dominque Griffen, 20, of the City of Poughkeepsie. Both were charged with trespass, a violation, as there was no damage to the vehicle and nothing was taken.
Man Charged With Making Graffiti
At approximately 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, City of Poughkeepsie Police detectives observed a man spray-painting the side of a building on the 500-Block of Main Street. The subject was arrested on misdemeanor charges of making graffiti and possession of a graffiti instrument. He was identified as Zachary Carey, 23, of the City of Poughkeepsie.
Suspect Gave False Name
The female suspect arrested early this morning for trepass after being observed attempting to enter a vehicle on Loockerman Avenue gave City of Poughkeepsie Police a false name during her arrest. She identified herself as Dominque Griffen but that is not her true name. An investigation as to the true identity of the suspect is continuing.
Two Charged With Attempted Burglary
On July 20, at approximately 12:18 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center received a call from a resident of Orchard Place reporting an attempted burglary. The caller was inside her residence sleeping when a rear window opened and two individuals attempted to climb inside the window. The caller awoke and saw two suspects looking through the open window into her residence. She called 911 and gave a description of the suspects as they fled on foot. A short time later, responding patrol officers arrested two suspects in the immediate area. They were identified as Cyrhon W. Carr, 22, and Nigel L. Elting, 20, both of the City of Poughkeepsie. Both were charged with attempted burglary in the second degree and held pending arraignment.
There has been a recent increase in the number of burglaries in the City of Poughkeepsie and police urge residents to lock their doors and windows and to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
Two Charged in Burglary
On Saturday, July 23, at approximately 12:49 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to a burglary in progress at an address on South Grand Avenue. Upon arrival, two subjects fled the residence on foot and were subsequently arrested after a foot pursuit. They were identified as Eric Smith, 19, and Deonte Latham, 19, both of Poughkeepsie. They were charged with burglary in the second degree.
City police remind residents to secure their homes and report suspicious persons or activity in their neighborhoods.
Police Probe Rock Throwing Incidents on Route 9
There have been at least 10 recent incidents on Route 9 involving cars traveling north on the highway being struck with objects thrown from above between the Columiba Street overpass and Albany Street. Objects thrown include rocks, eggs, and pieces of brick. There have been no injuries in these incidents.
Targetted patrols of the area began on July 17 and on Friday, July 29, City of Poughkeepsie Police took three juvenile suspects into custody. Their cases will be handled by Dutchess County Family Court.

Man Charged in Friday Night Robbery
On Friday, July 29, members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department were conducting a foot patrol on Crannell Street shortly before 10 p.m. when an officer and detective observed two suspicious males. They were checked for warrants and moved along. At approximately the same time, another officer responded to the area of Cannon Street for an unconscious subject who appeared to be intoxicated. An investigation revealed that the unconscious subject was the victim of a robbery and beating. An area search was conducted and one of the suspicious males stopped earlier was identified as being involved in the robbery. Leon Gerald, 21, was taken into custody and charged with Robbery in the second degree.

Two Face Gun & Drug Charges
On Friday, Aug. 12 at approximately 9:30 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers in the area of Academy heard what sounded like a gun shot. Upon further checking the area, they observed a subject who took off running. This subject ran in to an apartment building on Academy Street near Montgomery Street.
While checking the building for the suspect, several subjects were located and detained. Recovered at the scene were a loaded .38 Special Smith and Wesson handgun and a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun. Also recovered was approximately three ounces of powder cocaine and approximately six ounces of crack cocaine.
Arrested was: Jeffrey S. Johnson II, 21, of Harrison Street on felony charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Also arrested was a 17-year-old city male who may be eligible for youthful offender status. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of weapon, a misdemeanor.
