Man Steals Purse from Car on Hooker Ave.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, a man stole a purse from a parked car in the area of 238 Hooker Avenue. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 30s, 5'10", medium build, wearing all dark clothes and a black knit hat.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call (845) 451-4000.

Citizens are reminded not to leave valuables in their vehicles.


Police Seeking Runaway Teen

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a missing person case involving a teenager who ran away from home. Kaysia Ellis, 14, was last seen on Nov. 16 wearing all black clothing and white sneakers. She is a black female, 4'11" tall weighing 100 lbs. If located, call city police at (845) 451-4000. Teen Arrested for Robbery

On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 4:35 p.m. two teens attempted to rob a man, stopping him on Mansion Street and demanding money. A City of Poughkeepsie Police vehicle was in the area on routine patrol and the two suspects fled with one of them being apprehended after a brief struggle with officers. He was subsequently identified by the victim. The suspect, 16, was arrested and charged with Attempted Robbery 2, a felony, and obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor. As he may be eligible for youthful offender status, his name is not being released at this time.

Tree Damaged in Spratt Park

A large standing tree in the rear of Spratt Park was damaged recently when someone hacked away a section of the trunk with an axe, leaving the tree in danger of falling over. The city Department of Public Works has since cut the tree down. Anyone with information concerning this incident, or other suspicious activity in the park, is asked to call city police at (845) 451-4000.

Police Probe Robbery on Academy St.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, a woman who was walking in the area of 137 Academy Street was pushed to the ground by two young black males who then took the victim's fanny pack and fled on east on Franklin Street and then to Holmes Street.

Two Charged With Possessing Stolen Handgun

On Tuesday, Dec. 29, City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers from the Neighborhood Recovery Unit conducted a surveillance of a residence on Hooker Avenue in search of a subject wanted on a Dutchess County Court arrest warrant. Officers observed a subject believed to be the target enter an SUV and leave the area. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over on Carroll Street, but it fled as officer approached. A brief pursuit ensued and the vehicle was stopped on Holmes and Academy streets.

 

The target, Herman Hinton, 30, was the passenger and was taken into custody. The driver, Donald Mastroti, 35, was also taken into custody. Hinton was found to possess nearly one ounce of crack/powder cocaine, 26 decks of heroin, a scale and a small amount of U.S. currency. A stolen and loaded 9mm handgun was also located in the vehicle.

 

Hinton was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count each of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies. Mastroti was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. They were held pending arraignment.

Man Charged With Firing Handgun

On Thursday, Dec. 31, at approximately 3:25 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police received a report of two shots fired in the area of 364 Main St. Responding officers located the suspect in an apartment at that address and he was positively identified by two witnesses to the incident. Donovan Crawford, 29, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody without incident and was charged second and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, and second degree reckless endangerment and obstruction of governmental administration, misdemeanors. A subsequent search by responding officers resulted in the recovery of a 32 caliber handgun believed to be discarded by the suspect.

On January 5, 2010 at 1249pm The City of Poughkeepsie Police Deartment responded to the Jelly Belly Deli located at 83 Washington St. for a panic alarm activation.  Responding Officers discovered that an armed robbery had occurred there and the store employees were chasing the suspect.  A short time later, after following footprints in the snow Officers found the suspect, 30 year old City resident and Parolee Nigel Brown, hiding in a vacant building.  Brown was charged with Robbery 2nd degree a class C felony.  Brown is being held pending arraignment.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 451-4000 and all calls will be kept confidential.

Search Warrant Executed on Garden ST

The City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in a multi month investigation into heroin sales at 82 Garden St, Poughkeepsie.  Based on the investigation

members of the Emergency Services Unit executed a Narcotics search warrant at the location on January 29, 2010.  A large amount of heroin packaged for distribution, crack cocaine and a loaded handgun were recovered.

 

During the warrant execution the following suspects were arrested at the scene and later charged as follows:

 

Kevin C. Sprow DOB 5-12-1961, 82 Garden St, rear, Poughkeepsie, NY

Charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd (B-Felony) 2 counts, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th (C-Felony), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (C-Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (D-Felony)

 

Daniel E. Jackson DOB 2-21-1981, 25 Lexington Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY

Charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (C-Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (D-Felony)

 

Cherith B. Warwick DOB 2-15-1987, 24 Willow St, Pine Plains, NY

Charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (B-Felony)

Drug Arrest Made on Garden ST

Due to complaints of drug activity in the area of Garden St, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit conducted a multi month investigation in the area, resulting in a felony arrest January 28, 2010 at approximately 6:15pm.  Arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3, a class B-Felony was Anthony M. Babcock, 23, 43 Worrall Ave, Poughkeepsie.

Dry Cleaners Robbed

Town & Country Cleaners, 736 Main Street, was robbed on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at approximately 4:20 p.m. The suspect entered the store and passed a note that directed an employee to empty the register, threatening the use of a gun. The suspect then fled south on South Grand Avenue and then westbound toward Hoffman Avenue.

 

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a brown hooded sweat shirt, light blue jeans and white sneakers.

Drug Task Force Investigation Concludes With Arrest

A year-long investigation by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force led to the arrest of a city man yesterday as well as the recovery of illegal handguns and drugs.

 

Rawl Deslandes, 37, was arrested at 10:00 a.m. on Feb. 4 outside of his residence at 11 Jewett Avenue. Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed at Rawl’s business, Upstate Music Alliance and Rocco Don Records, located at 320 Main St.

 

Recovered during the search were two handguns, one ounce of cocaine and approximately $2,000 cash. During the course of the investigation, nine ounces of cocaine were recovered.

 

Deslandes was charged with first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, an A-1 felony; third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a B felony; and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a D felony.

The current weather forecast for the City has the storm starting at approx. 5am.    Heavier snow is expected later in the day.    IT IS FULLY EXPECTED THAT THE CITY WILL DECLARE A SNOW EMERGENCY DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS.

It is requested that all residents avoid parking on snow emergency routes to assist in removal.

Snow Event Update

The City has not seen the full impact of the present snow storm.   It is expected that the snow will continue thru midnight sometimes heavy at times.   However, at this point, there is no expected need to call a snow emergency.  If conditions decline, or the storm moves further north towards us, this could change.

Residents are asked to avoid unnecessary travel later today and to avoid parking on city streets, if not necessary, to assist with snow removal.

Residents are also reminded not to throw or push snow into the streets as this just hampers the removal process and is in violation of city ordinance.

Tomorrow, alternate side parking will be strictly enforced first thing in the morning to assist with the cleanup effort.

Gun Arrests

City of Poughkeepsie Police officers have recovered two handguns in separate incidents in recent days.

On February 9th at approx. 11pm an alert citizen notified police of a subject displaying a handgun on Main St.   Officers responding to the area spotted a vehicle beleived used by the suspect.   The vehicle was stopped and the operator, Shanteek Gaines, Age 29, of the City was found to be operating the vehicle w/out a license.    Subsequent to his arrest, a semi automatic handgun was recovered.    His charges include Crim Poss of a Weapon, a D/felony and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation MV, U/mis.

On Februay 11th at approx. 528pm, officers on routine patrol noted a vehicle with a loud radio and the operator was on a cellphone.  He was stopped on Winnikee Ave and also found to be operating the vehicle w/out a license.  A subsequent search by officers recovered a semi automatic handgun in the vehicle.    The subject was taken into custoday after a brief scuffle.   William Lloyd, Age 29, charges include Crim Poss Weapon D/fel, Resisting Arrest A/mis, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation MV and assorted VTL charges.

Citizens who have knowledge of subjects with illegal weapons are encouraged to contact the police and provide as much information as possible.   In these two cases one such tip led to the recovery of that weapon and the arrest of the suspect who possessed it.

  The City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in a multi-month investigation into narcotic sales at 68 Catherine St, 3rd floor Poughkeepsie. 

 

  During the investigation an amount of crack cocaine and illegally possessed prescription pills were recovered.

 

  As a result of the investigation, Shabari T. Seay, DOB 9-16-1977 of the stated address was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd a class B-Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th a class C-Felony.

Search Warrant Executed on 68 Lent St

The City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in a multi month investigation into marihuana sales from 68 Lent St, 2nd floor Poughkeepsie. 

 

During the investigation an amount of marihuana and US currency was recovered.

 

As a result of the investigation, Philip N. Gordon, DOB 12-12-1960 of the stated address was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana 4th degree a class A-misdemeanor.

Drug Task Force Executes Search Warrant at 452 Main St.

Location: Reggae Boy Restaurant, 452 Main St, City of Po’k.

Suspect #1: Rodney J. Anderson, 35yoa, dob 4/12/74, res. at 62 Delafield St apt 1.

Suspect #2: Alexander R. Carr, 48yoa, dob 5/21/61, residing at 10 Cedarpine Ln., Po’k

 

 

Details: On the above date at about 5:41PM members of the Dutchess County Drug Task Force, assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie SWAT team, executed a search warrant at Reggae Boy restaurant located at 452 Main St, in the City of Poughkeepsie. This search warrant was the result of a three month investigation into crack cocaine sales directly from the restaurant. During the search warrant, about five people were detained in the rear of the restaurant after it was determined all were gambling. The store was closed for the evening and an amount of marihuana and cocaine, as well as approximately $5,000.00 dollars in cash was seized. The above two subjects were each charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd. Both charges are Class B Felonies. Rodney Anderson and Alex Carr were both placed in City lock up and arraigned today. Carr was remanded on $25,000 cash and Carr was remanded to DCJ with no bail. Two of the subjects gambling were arrested for unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation and a bench warrant out of City of Poughkeepsie court.
